Abstract:

In this paper, we have discussed some common types of misbehavior in wireless networks especially the impact of selfishness on the Quality of Service (QoS) of IEEE802.11e and present a new channel allocation mechanism that tries to control trespasser nodes. IEEE 802.11e medium access control (MAC) standard determines a set of QoS enhancement protocols that allows traffic classification in two categories (High Priority and Low Priority), for various traffic types over a wireless LAN. Thus, HP traffic uses privileged service and encounters a lesser delay. However, it is possible for an application to falsely declare its LP traffic as HP traffic. We named these behaviors as selfish behaviors and they may destroy the QoS capabilities of the hole network, and the standard does not address this issue yet. To provide a relevant incentive rule that encourages all applicants to be truthful, a new MAC protocol based on game theory has been designed which promises fair resource sharing for both HP and LP traffic. Using modeling the network in MATLAB software, we show that apolling-based incentive mechanism has been effective for stimulating users to report the QoS category of their traffic truthfully. Furthermore, our research had shown that the implemented incentive mechanism improves the number of QoS constrained users and system capacity
