Abstract:

Musculoskeletal disorders are among the most common and costly work-related problems in nurses, leading to reduced productivity and effectiveness, dissatisfaction, and burnout. On the other hand, studies have shown that application-based digital interventions can be most effective and highly accessible; Therefore, the purpose of this study is to design and evaluate an application program for the management of musculoskeletal disorders in nurses. Methods: The present study is a combination of two types of cross-sectional and developmental-interventional studies (before and after) and is applied in terms of results. This research is in four main phases: 1) Determining the prevalence of symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders in nurses, 2) Determining the content, design, and development of a prototype of the musculoskeletal disorders management application, 3) Determining the effect of the musculoskeletal disorders management application Is an evaluation of its applicability. The research population consisted of 500 nurses in the first and 71 in the third phases. In the first phase, data were collected using Nordic. In the second phase, the content was reviewed by reviewing the texts and the opinions of specific experts. Then the diagrams and scenarios were prepared for the design and development of the prototype of the application. The application was provided to nurses as a pilot for four months. In the third phase, in addition to Nordic, the pain/discomfort scale was used, and in the fourth phase, the Hughes questionnaire was used to collect data. Data were processed using descriptive statistics, McNemar, and Wilcoxon statistical tests using SPSS software version 16.Results: The results showed that more than 90% of nurses reported symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders in at least one of the organs in the prevalence stage. In the second phase, the content of sports exercises was prepared and divided into three groups for upper limbs, waist/trunk, and lower limbs, and the application program for managing musculoskeletal disorders with eight registration capabilities, exercises, user panel, about us, a question from the researcher, contact with us, reporting and response were designed. The results of comparing the prevalence of symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders before and after the intervention showed that the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and the mean severity of discomfort before and after the intervention decreased significantly (P <0.05). Also, 98.8% of specialists and 97.26% of nurses considered the musculoskeletal disorders management application applicable. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the application program for managing musculoskeletal disorders to exercise in nurses can be used as one of the effective ways to manage musculoskeletal disorders.
