Abstract:
Panosteitis is an inflammatory disease of the fatty bone marrow, with secondary involvement of bone.Clinical signs are usually associated with pain. Although nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs are commonlyused to treat panosteitis, they have many potential side effects. A two-year-old German shepherd dog withsymptoms of acute lameness in the forelimb was referred to the veterinary hospital of Urmia University.Panosteitis was diagnosed after clinical examination and radiography. Ginger extract was considered astreatment option due to its antiinflammatory and analgesic properties as well as rare side effects. After 2 weeksof medication, clinical symptoms and radiographic lesions resolved. The results of this study show for the firsttime that ginger extract can be used to improve skeletal disorders in dogs.
