Abstract:
In this report we describe the synthesis and characterization of epoxy vinyl ester urethane resin without the use of isocyanate. Cyclic carbonates of epoxides (۳-(((oxiran-۲-yl)methoxy) butoxy)-۲-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (OMBM) and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol- A (DGEBA)) were prepared by the reaction of epoxides and atmospheric pressure of CO۲ in the presence of different catalysts. Bis cyclic carbonates with different diamines produce non-isocyanate based epoxy vinyl ester urethane resins. Afterward, the corresponding products cured with different percentages of vinyl ester resin using benzoyl peroxide as initiator and N,Ndimethyl aniline as accelerator to improve its mechanical properties such as elongation and tensile strength compare to vinyl ester resin.
