The Effects of English Street Talk Kind of Grammatical Points instruction on Iranian EFL Learners’ Overall Listening skills abstract
Teaching English street talk kind of grammatical points is a very useful teaching strategy which enables teachers to foster their students’ listening skills. This study focused on the students' performance, progress and improvement on their listening skills more effectively while benefiting from street talk kind of grammatical points teaching as a very practical teaching strategy in English teaching courses of Kish Air English teaching institute in Bam .The participants of this study consisted of 60 homogenous male students within the age range of 15-16 studying English as a foreign language in the elementary level in an English institute (Kish Air) in Bam. The participants were divided into one control and one experimental groups each with 30 students. While the experimental group benefited from street talk grammatical points teaching, those in the control group were taught according to the regular course objectives following the norms of any English class without benefiting from the so called teaching strategy.This work was conducted via some pre-selected grammatical points which are mostly used by English native speakers in their daily conversations that are totally different from those formal grammatical structures that students are taught about according to their course text books. Besides having the role of a guide or counsellor, the teacher is considered as the only source of information in the experimental group .The findings of the present work, shows positive results towards teaching street talk grammatical points which bodes well in fostering students’ overall listening skills, and can be considered as a very useful teaching strategy and can be used for other subjects in the other institutes and schools to teach a foreign language more effective .
