Abstract:
Portland cement is recognized as the third most important material in the construction industry. In this study, the effect of citric acid on the properties of Portland cement was investigated. For this purpose, ۰.۰۵, ۰.۱ and ۰.۲ % by weight of citric acid cement were used. The results showed that citric acid hada significant effect on reducing the setting time of Portland cement and by adding ۰.۰۵% citric acid, the setting time decreased about ۷۳%. The results of hydration degree and compressive strength for the two samples including of ۰.۰۵ and ۰.۱% citric acid were almost the same, and the improvement inthe compressive strength of Portland cement in these two samples was about ۷۰%, which was due to their higher degree of hydration. By increasing the citric acid content to ۰.۲ wt%, there was a significant decrease in the compressive strength and hydration degree of Portland cement
