Abstract:

Zone of Sabzpooshan fault in Southern city of Shiraz has over 78 Km length. The mechanism is a right lateral slip fault which the compressional components are added to it at its middle and end parts. According to the studies this zone is divided into three segments: southern, middle and northern segments. The northern segment is in turn divided into eastern and western phyla which a non piercement salt plug between these two phyla is developing, penetrating and moving toward the surface. Moving salt upward and its penetration into the fault surfaces cause a fracture and increase in the width of shearing zone on the surface and for this its fractal dimension shows a considerable increment and approximates 2. The studies show an inductive earthquake magnitude Ms 4.5 to Ms 5.7 within the limit of Kavar’s dam reservoir after it is charged. It would certainly activate northern segment of Sabzpooshan fault so that it could cause the earthquake with magnitude Ms 6 to Ms 6.4 and its effect on the Kavar Dam structure would have an acceleration of a=0.33 g.
