Abstract:

The monitoring system of dam is divided into stage 1, stage 2, and stage 3,in Japan. Each stage has its own monitoring rule that corresponds with dam body behavior. The timing to move to next stage must be determined by examining observed data (deformation of dam body, amount of leakage and uplift pressure etc). In this paper, we conducted comparative analysis between observed data and calculated data of the deformation of dam body during about five years after initial impoundment, using twodimensional Finite Element Method (FEM), and show that the repeatability of behavior of dam body, and problems to conduct quantitative safety evaluation based on numerical analysis
