Abstract:
Tetracyclines are a group of antibiotics used in veterinary medicine in various forms and combinations with other drugs and are generally bacteriostatic, and have bactericidal properties in high concentrations. They are active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, and rickettsia. These drugs bind to the ribosome to prevent protein synthesis. They pass through the placenta and are excreted in the urine and feces and are used to treat various bacterial infections in animals such as large and small livestock and poultry. This study aims to introduce the different dosage forms of tetracyclines available in the Iranian market, which are mostly used in veterinary medicine. To do this review, by referring directly to pharmacies in the city of Tabriz, the generic and trade names of various antibiotics of the tetracycline group available in the Iranian market and their active ingredients were written down through the site of drug companies. Information about them was extracted and the compounds of each of them were checked. Based on the form of consumption, tetracyclines available in the Iranian market were divided into eight categories like a sterile injectable solution, water-soluble powder, mixed powder in food, oral solution, oral pill, and intrauterine device, spray, and eye ointment.
