Abstract:
Water coning causes a reduction of oil production and an increase of production costs. Dual completion (Down Hole Water Sink) is one of the methods adopted to attenuate water coning. The effectiveness of dual completions at mitigating water coning in thin oil-column reserves is examined in several ways, but there are some risks associated with choosing the prospective strategy. These uncertainties must be discussed to optimize conditions for production to get the highest recovery from a dual completed well. Some of the parameters are determined during completion (for example depth of water sink) and others must be considered during production. Oil and water flow rates are the most important variables of second category. In this work numerical analysis of dual completion for different flow rates are discussed to show that both oil and water flow rate must be chosen in a specific range to prevent water breakthrough as well as oil breakthrough. Also, effect of flow rates on the maximum, possible recovery contributed to a well before breakthrough times is studied. Finally it was concluded that there is an interval of optimum flow rates that must be determined for a well to keep stable condition of wells and reach to the most recovery
