Abstract:

In this paper, hot deformation behavior of functionally graded steels (FGSs) is investigated via conducting hot compression tests at different temperatures and strain rates. FGSs are a group of functionally graded materials (FGMs) consisting of ferritic (α), austenitic (γ), bainitic (β) and martensitic (M) phases placed on each other in different configurations and are produced via electro slag remelting (ESR). Utilizing the Zener-Hollomon equation, an analytical model has been developed for the mean flow stress determination of functionally graded steels under hot compression conditions in which characteristics of boundary layers were used for modeling the FGS flow stress. The results show that the proposed equations give a precise estimate for high temperature flow stress of αβγMγ FGS, which means it can be used in numerical simulation of hot deformation process and choosing proper deformation parameter in engineering practice, accurately.
