Abstract:
Recently Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been used for a wide range of applications. Due to inconvenient recharging of the node batteries, these networks should functionas long as possible. In this case, designing protocols with energy awareness plays an important role in network’s lifetime. Thereare several different approaches to deal with energy Constraint. Low-Energy Adaptive clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) is a wellknownalgorithm which divides the network into several clusters. Each cluster has its own Cluster-Head (CH). In each cluster, nodes only communicate with their own cluster-head. Then,these cluster-heads send the aggregated data to the base station. In this paper, we propose a Fuzzy based cluster-head selectionalgorithm for wireless sensor networks. In order to select reasonable cluster-heads, our algorithm, selects one initialcluster-head and two initial redundant cluster-heads for each cluster. This Algorithm uses the advantage of fuzzy approaches such as Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) for an energy efficient clusterheadselection to extend the Network’s lifetime through the more even distribution of energy consumption among the nodes.Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm could better implement load balance and prolong the lifetime of the network significantly
