Environmental Problems and People Attitudes

Today, environmental degradation and global warming risks have become the most important global problem with serious consequences, especially on human health. Human responses to these problems are the laws of communities, environmental protection movements and international treaties. The people's attitudes toward the environment are the determinant of all human responses to environmental problems. Now, most people in the world see global warming as the biggest problem in the world today. Our secondary analysis of a national survey and an international survey shows that Iranians, like people of other countries in the world, consider environmental problems as acute problems of today. Most Iranians believe "human`s engage in nature often leads to destructive consequences", "natural resources have enough natural resources if we only know how to use them", "Plants and animals have the right to live as much as humans", "the balance of nature is being destroyed by human industrial activities" and "soon, Iran will encounter major problems and crises". The comparison of Iranians` environmental attitudes with other nation also shows the rating of Iranians` pro-environmental attitudes is very high among people's attitudes in 81 countries.
