Abstract:

We conducted the present study to investigate the effects of cigarette quit on changes in bloodpressure and high blood pressure. We evaluated ۸۱۷۰ healthy male employees in a steelmanufacturing company who received professional health examinations at the company's healthcare center in ۱۳۹۸ and re -examined in ۱۴۰۰. We examined variables of base age adjustment, body mass index, smoking, alcohol, exercise, family history of hypertension, systolic or diastolicblood pressure, and changes in body mass index and alcohol consumption during follow -upperiods. Relatively regulated risks of high blood pressure in those who had left smoking for <۱, ۱to ۳ years, ۰.۶ (۹۵ % CI ۰.۲ to ۱.۹), ۱.۵ (۹۵ % CI ۰.۸ to ۲.۸) and ۳.۵ (۹۵ % . CI ۱.۷ to ۷.۴respectively compared to current smokers. The rising risk of high blood pressure for longer periodsof cigarette quitting in the subgroups of those who have maintained their weight, as well as thosewho gain high weight after quitting. The increased increase in both systolic and diastolic bloodpressure was higher in those who left the current smokers for ۱ year. We saw a gradual increase inblood pressure as we prolonged smoking in men, although the mechanism of this increase in bloodpressure is unknown. The study suggests that smoking may lead to increased blood pressure, hypertension or both.
