A Limit equilibrium approach for determination of bearingcapacity of strip footingS on frictional-cohesive soil abstract
The determination of the bearing capacity of strip foundations on frictional-cohesive soils is of interest to geotechnical practicing engineers. On the basis of limit equilibrium approach, this paper presents a new method to compute the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations on c-f soils. For purpose, an imaginary retaining wall is assumed to pass the footing wedge and the lateral earth pressures exerted on the wall in active and passive conditions are determined. The conventional bearing capacity factors are extracted and then the bearing capacity equation is derived. The results are compared with available published data, demonstrating the capability of the developed method. A computer program is prepared to perform parametric studies to demonstrate the influencing factor on the bearing capacity of strip footings
