Abstract:

Compared to other types of dams, earthen dams have the largest number in the worldand considering the growing trend of earthen dam construction in recent years and thehigh seismicity in some areas, the analysis and design of large earthen dams againstearthquakes and supply Its stability in these loading conditions is of special importanceand priority in the study of earthen dams. Considering the importance of investigatingthe seismic behavior of such dams after construction, it is appropriate to use theexperience of conducting environmental and forced vibration tests. In this research, thedynamic parameters of Masjid Suleiman earthen dam have been compared by forcedvibration test and finite element analysis upstream downstream. The forced vibrationtest on the said dam is investigated with two vibrating units in the same phase andopposite phase direction. Then, the signals recorded by the sensors installed along thecrest of the dam were analyzed and processed using the Fourier spectrum of the on-offtest and the frequency response curves, and the natural frequencies, mode shapes, andthe corresponding attenuation percentage of each mode were identified and calculated. Then, the numerical model of the dam with material parameter specifications was madebased on the results of the geo -seismic test and the material specifications presented inthe original design of the dam, and by examining different models with differentthickness ratios for the foundation and lateral supports, a fixed thickness was establishedfor these cases. In the final model, it was obtained. And at the end, the compatibilitybetween the results of different finite element models and the forced vibration test wasinvestigated and evaluated.
