Abstract:

This paper draws on the main premises of the French School of Comparative Literature to examine the link between two renowned literary works from classical Persian and English traditions. The two sides of the analysis are The Seven Fountains by Sir William Jones and Qolam-E-Bazargan, narrated in Marzban-Nama by Sa'd al-Din Varavini. The research opens by examining relevant documentation that could establish a connection between the aforementioned texts. Subsequently, a comparative analysis is conducted to identify and compare the shared imagery and their metaphorical representations in the texts. A positivist stance, in line with the theoretical perspective of the French School, is adopted. The findings show a strong line of connection between the two texts in terms of plot structure, primary characters, events and actions, as well as temporal and geographical settings. The paper provides insights into the symbolism common to both works and also sheds light on their metaphorical representations. The results highlight the cross-cultural exchanges and influences between the two Persian and English literary spheres
