Abstract:

organic farming systems offer several benefits compared to conventional farming systems, including environmental, health, biodiversity, energy consumption, and sustainable food production benefits. These benefits highlight the potential of organic farming systems to promote sustainable agricultural practices and contribute to a healthier planet. The use of genetic resources in organic farming offers several benefits, including enhancing the potential of organic farming and biodiversity, developing organically adapted varieties, conserving heritage varieties and traditional agricultural knowledge, promoting sustainable food production, and increasing resilience and adaptability in agricultural systems. Overall, the conservation and exploitation of genetic resources in organic farming systems is an important area of research that aims to develop plants that enhance the potential of organic farming and biodiversity. Wild genetic resources play a critical role in the development of organically adapted varieties, and distinct variations in ecosystems demand different genetic compositions. However, productivity of some crops, such as hulled wheat, needs to be increased in order to extend their acreage in organic farming systems.
