Abstract:

Wheat is a crucial part of human civilization and has played a significant role in feeding the world and improving global food security. This text discusses the importance of optimizing plant density to enhance wheat productivity and reduce the yield gap. It examines the factors that influence the optimum plant density for wheat, including genotype, sowing date, weed control, nitrogen-use efficiency, and lodging. The paper defines optimal plant density as the range of plant numbers per unit area that maximizes the use of available resources and minimizes the yield loss due to interplant competition, and notes that it requires adjustment according to the specific conditions of each region. The text concludes that increasing the planting density of wheat is essential for efficient and sustainable crop production and provides insights that can help improve wheat yields and contribute to global food security
