Abstract:
Introduction: Application of nanotechnology has been widelyapplied recently in food industries and medicine in order to improvequality, color, and appearance. Meanwhile, it enhancesthe physical and biological potentials of bioactive compoundsespecially antioxidant and anticancer properties. Curcumin isa polyphenol derived from the turmeric plant, Curcuma longaL. rhizomes, which has multi-therapeutic potential and due tohaving a wide range of benefits and biological properties. Theaim of this study was to synthesize Nanostructured lipid carriers(NLC) containing nano curcumin and investigate the anticancerpotential. Methods: Formulations of Nanostructured lipid carriers containingnano curcumin were prepared using high-pressure homogenizationfollowed by the ultra-sonication technique. Thenit was characterized by dynamic light scattering, zeta potentialand Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope analysis. Finally, its anticancer properties have been surveyed againstmelanoma skin cancer cell line using MTT assay. Results: The obtained results illustrated that the synthesizednanoparticle carrier was spherical and stable with the size of۲۱۸ nm and a polydispersity index of ۰.۵۸۳ Meanwhile it demonstratedselective toxicity against the melanoma skin cancercell with IC۵۰ values of ۳۷.۱۳ μg/ml and did not show toxicityon normal cells (N۹۲۹ cell line). Conclusion: In the light of this study, we can suggest that Nanostructuredlipid carriers containing nano curcumin could beconsidered as a promising drug delivery for treatment of melanomacancer.
