Least-cost Design of Two-loop Water Distribution Network UsingAnt Lion Optimization Algorithm abstract

Water distribution networks are an essential part of a city's infrastructure. Pipes, that convey water in a water distribution network, are the major part of a water distribution network costs. Due to this fact, it is necessary to minimize this cost. In this research, an evolutionary algorithm named Ant Lion Optimization (ALO) algorithm is applied for the least-cost design of water distribution network. To simulate the hydraulic condition of the water distribution network, here, EPANET software is used. To link EPANET software with optimization method, EPANET-Matlab toolkit is used in Matlab software. As a case study, here, two-loop water distribution network is selected. The objective function of the optimization problem is defined as minimizing the construction cost by considering pipe diameters as decision variables of the problem. The results show that the minimum cost value of 420,000 is obtained using the proposed method. The results indicate the capability of the ALO algorithm to solve optimization problem.
