Introducing and investigating the seismic performance of theshear-resisting frame (SRF) with the holes in the link beam web abstract
Study on modern seismic systems for achieving more energy dissipation andcollapse control has attracted much research interest in recent years. One way toaccomplish this goal is the creation of structural fuses in seismic frames. Thepresent paper studies the idea of the shear resisting frame (SRF) with the openingat the middle of the beam span, and as a result of a behavioral and numericalstudy the shear resisting frame is suggested as a good seismic system. With thecreation of openings with specific geometric specifications in the link beam web, vertical links are resulted and the uniform distribution of normal stress alongvertical links is considered in designing the geometry of links. A numerical studyis conducted on the proposed seismic system using ABAQUS, and the frame issubjected to pushover and cyclic analyzes. Based on the results, the shearresisting frame (SRF) gives proper ductility and energy dissipation by creatingstable hysteresis cycles. In addition, with the collapse concentrated in link beam, other elements of the frame are protected against damage. The replaceability ofthe link can also lead to the further efficiency of the SRF system. Therefore, theshear resisting frame system could be suggested as an efficient seismic systemagainst lateral loads
