In this paper we describe an optimization procedure based on PSO for planning the production of steel in a steelmaking continuous casting plant. The scheduling problem is first formulated as a large scaleinteger programming and a solution approach based on particle swarm optimization is then developed.The objective of scheduling is to meet due date and minimize of waiting times.
