Abstract:

Modernism is one of the literary movements in the ۲۰th century which depicts the reality of the world and it tends to revolve around the themes of disillusionment, confusion, and isolation "Araby " and " How I Met My Husband" are two short stories written by James Joyce and Alice Munro, respectively. In the following essay, I will try to focus on the analysis of three main components of modernism in these short stories. This article attempts to show the modernist movement by self-realization through disillusionment with the reality of Dublin, true love, andlong-, standing commitment in a relationship. Furthermore, protagonists are isolated in their romances and the constant absence of sound is obvious throughout the two stories. Ultimately, They explore the difficulty of the adult world, resulting in their maturity and puberty. As a matter of fact, realization and a strong sense of confusion and anguish leads to sharp comprehension of real life
