Abstract:

Today, one of the most important causes of death in the world, especially in developing countries, is road accidents. This issue will become more painful and critical when it is about young drivers. Therefore, identifying factors affecting the severity of such accidents is one of the most important tasks of traffic safety engineers. In this research, based on the data of accidents related to young drivers on the suburban roads of ILAM province, based on police reports March ۲۰۰۹ and March ۲۰۱۷ and using the binary logistic model, the contributories factors for severity of such accidents have been identified. Parameters such as the type of overtaking violation, the type of accident, including accidents with a fixed object, run-off, front-on-on and sideswipe, the type of vehicle and the distance from the origin of movement have an effect on the severity of accidents. Accidents with a fixed object had the greatest effect on increasing the severity and the distance from the origin of the movement had the least effect on increasing the intensity. With the increase in the physical size and the guilty vehicle, the severity of accidents decreased, which means that trucks and trailers have the least severity in driver accidents. It is hoped that the results of this research will be effective in improving road safety.
