Strategies for maintaining urban biodiversity and promoting ecological connectivity in urban landscapes

This article provides a comprehensive review of the strategies for maintaining urban biodiversity and promoting ecological connectivity in urban landscapes. The research question guiding the review is: What are the best practices and recommendations for urban planning and environmental management to maintain urban biodiversity and promote ecological connectivity? A systematic literature review, meta-analysis, and narrative review were employed to synthesize the existing literature on the topic. The findings highlight the importance of green infrastructure, native plant species, landscape cohesion, community engagement, and the need for careful planning and management to mitigate the impacts of urbanization on biodiversity. The article also presents selected case studies, illustrating successful strategies and drawing lessons and best practices. The review concludes with a discussion of the implications of the findings for urban planning and environmental management, limitations of the review, and suggestions for future research, policy, and practice.
