Efficient Oxidation of Sulfides with NaIO4 Catalyzed by Manganese(Salophen)Cl Supported on Nano-Silica abstract

In this work, manganese(III) salophen supported on silica nanoparticles was used as an efficient and hetereogeneous catalyst for oxidation of sulfides with sodiumperiodate under mild conditions. The prepared catalyst, [Mn(salophen)Cl@NH2- Nano-SiO2], was characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, anddiffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectrophotometery and scanning electron microscopy. The reactivity of this catalyst was investigated in the oxidation of sulfides withNaIO4 and the corresponding sulfoxides and sulfones were produced in high to excellent yields. Also its reusability was checked in the oxidation reactions. The effect of reaction parameters such as solvent and oxidant in the oxidation of sulfides was also investigated
