Possibilities to use the meta model and classical approaches toevaluate the impact of hydraulic conditions abstract

One of the challenges faced by hydro-mechanical facilities is the formation of vortices during water withdrawal from channels, which can lead to various problems for intakes. This study focuses on predicting the critical submergence depth ratio in horizontal intakes by applying classical models and meta model approaches. The experiments considered two types of critical submergence based on bottom clearance. The results showed that the meta model approaches, such as Support Vector Machine and Gene Expression Programming, provided better predictions compared to classical approaches. The ratio of velocities in the intake pipe and channel (Vi/Vc) played a crucial role in the modeling. Additionally, it was observed that increasing the intake pipe diameter resulted in decreased model accuracy. Further research is needed to address the vortex formation issues using analytical and numerical methods
