Adsorption of Co(acac)2 catalyst on the mesoporous MCM-41 particles forthe cobalt-mediated radical polymerization of vinyl acetate abstract

A MCM-41 particle support system for cobalt(II) acetylacetonate (Co(acac)2) catalyst was successfullydeveloped for the cobalt-mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) of vinyl acetate (VAc). We reporta simple but efficient technique to produce this supported catalysts through adsorption of Co(acac)2on the surface of mesoporous MCM-41 particles. For this purpose, adsorption process of Co(acac)2on these particles was studied from perspective adsorption isotherm. The polymerization of VAcusing a new supported catalyst showed the high efficiency of this type of catalysts in effective controlof radical polymerization and the synthesis of poly vinyl acetate with controlled molecular weightand molecular weight distribution.
