An Evaluation of Real Time License Plate Detection Systems abstract
In this paper, we will consider studying a few of available systems of License Plate Detection (LPD). Our intent is to gather the properties of some real time systems to use as specific survey and future reference, for other researchers and engineers in this field of research. We will also summarize the methods that we have studied and evaluated for reference. It is well known by all involved in this field of study that there are many methods and algorithms available in LPD systems which vary in the benefits they have to offer, which we will not call any of them perfect or the best method, since our mission is to present our survey to others researchers as a reference material. Our project will mainly focus on the real time detection system and we will try to stick to our mission, being the evaluation of these methods, as we believe the most important factor in this field of study is the time factor. As such, we will try to present a comparative study of different approaches made to LPD. Furthermore, we will present some of the algorithm and implementation of theses LPDs, which will show that the quality of the results will vary, for different images when, different methods are employed. Also, we compare these methods based on different factors such as complexity and Speed. Our evaluation is shown at the end of this paper.
