Abstract:
A model that describes the one-dimensional flow of simplified Phan-Thien- Tanner (SPTT) during calendaring of infinite sheets is presented. The SPTT model, believed to be a more realistic model for viscoelastic fluids, was used to represent the rheological behavior of the fluid. The lubrication approximations are used to simplify the equations of motion. Linear form of the stress coefficient is used in the constitutive equation. In this investigation, the dimensionless pressure gradient, the velocity profile, and the relationship between leave-off distance and contact distance are obtained for a wide range of Deborah number and elongational parameter. The results indicate the strong effects of the viscoelastic
parameter on the leave-off distance and contact distance, pressure and velocity profiles.
