Abstract:
Due to the development and expansion of the cities and increase in the density of population in recent years, the number of underground floors and the depth ofexcavations have increased; and choosing the retaining structure has become the main concern for geotechnical engineers in stabilizing urban excavations. Nailing is one of thebrand new techniques developed day by day in urban areas. In this technique, we use reinforcing bars for stabilizing the excavation wall’s soil, in which the bars (reinforcingbars) are inserted into the soil for a certain depth and the space between these bars aremeshed. In this article, Firstly the nailing technique is introduced, and then a threedimensional numerical model using nailing method is constructed by PLAXIS 3D VIP,and finally there is a discussion about lateral deformation in walls, ground surface settlement and nail forces. In three-dimensional numerical modeling the nails modeled byBEAM element, shotcrete by PLATE element, soil by hardening soil model. In order to model the interaction between the wall and the soil, interface element is used.
