Story Ductility Demand of the 3D RC Structures Considering Bi-Direction Seismic Excitations abstract

In the current seismic design of the reinforced concrete (RC) structures with momentframe lateral load resisting system, inter-story drift ratio is a key parameter which is checked to provide sufficient structural stiffness. Also, the parameter is a central criterion utilized in order to compare story ductility demand versus ductility capacity provided bythe pre-defined yield mechanism. Although studies about the subject were extensive, theeffects of load excitation angle with respect to the building were not assessed in the past researches. Consequently, the main objective of the paper is to evaluate the above issue. With regard to the purpose, a nonlinear sample model of a 3D multi-story building was developed and static/dynamic analyses were carried out. Presented as diagrams andtables, the distribution of the story ductility factors were assessed taking into account the orientation effects of the bi-direction excitation.
