Abstract:

Photo-Fenton process is an effective oxidation process that has been used successfully for degrading various organic pollutants in wastewaters. However, a number of challenges such as pH-dependency, generation of large amount of sludge and catalyst recovery difficulties are commonly associated with homogeneous catalysis oxidation. Subsequently, several studies have been conducted to improve its oxidation efficiency and to overcome the challenges, which include the use of heterogeneous catalysts and/or chelating agents. In addition, the cost implication aspect of photo-Fenton treatment system when coupled to biological treatment technologies is also attempted in this paper
