Abstract:

Enhancing heat transfer mechanisms are used in many industrial applications like heat exchanger, air conditioning, chemical reactors and refrigeration systems. Therefore several techniques have been promoted to enhance heat transfer rate and to decrease the size and cost of equipments especially the heat exchangers. In this present study, attempts were made to review experimental and numerical researches done in recent years to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanger. For the purpose of heat transfer enhancement, the configuration of heat exchangers was improved through the installation of different devices for example twisted tape inserts. The results of heat transfer show that the shell – side and tube - side heat transfer coefficient of the heat exchanger increased. But at any time the use of twisted tape inserts can be caused decisive effect on pressure drop and pumping power consumption can be increased. So that any augmentation used into the heat exchanger should be optimized among the benefits of heat transfer and the higher pumping cost rate
