Contextualism: Concepts & Approaches in New Architecture

An architectural masterpiece is connected with a larger urban system and a hierarchy of sets. Context-Oriented architecture contains limited domain. It also concentrates on designed environment and spatial relationships and responds to its surrounding by respecting what is already there. In fact, it receives architectural site’s message and design it. As results, the building will be a small part of the surrounding environment. In an architectural sense, a building should be designed for harmonic relationship with other cultural, social, historical, structural, climatic and special features of the site. Also, the building should be compatible and harmonic with the ecology of the surrounding environment. It should establish unity and harmony with its own context and as consequently with environmental context.Establishment of visual relations is one of the essential and influential ways in which contribution to the surrounding environment can be established. Besides, it is a modern solution which considers minor and major issues in modern and traditional building and wants to create relationship between architecture and environment.The purpose of this research is to create an eligible, desirable visual environment, coexistence, harmony, balance and aesthetic fitness between architecture and urban context. We also consider methods which create more harmonic and homogenous links between buildings. In addition, the paper pays more attention on spirit of time; it has less validity than spirit of place in architecture. In aesthetic fitness, based on prosperous and harmonic national and international cases, both fitness of designs and aesthetic or symbolic aspects, which should contain appropriate contrast, are considered. Methodology of the research is documentary-applied one which is done based on the books and archived essays as a library research method.
