Translation of proverbs from Persian into English: A very difficult task for translators abstract
Proverbs can be considered as a part of everyday language and their translation is one of the most challenging issues in the realm of translation from one language into another with the maximal success in conveying the same conceptualization, connotation and shades of meaning. Not all proverbs have direct equivalents in another language, because some proverbs are culture specific and cannot be understood in another culture. There are however, some proverbs that have an exact equivalent in another language or some proverbs that have a near equivalent in the target language. This paper intends to review the translation of some proverbs from Persian into English in order to find out which is the most frequent one, the proverbs with an exact equivalent, the ones with a near equivalent, or the ones with no equivalent at all.
