Damage detection and model updating wall 3D panel structures abstract

Detection of damage in engineering structures during their service life has received increasing attention from researchers in the last years. Exact structural damage detection is a challenging problem due to the nonlinear behavior of structures, incomplete sensed data and presence of noise in the data. Information on the location and extent of damages could assist in the diagnosis of the structural health conditions. In current study, modal tests were implemented for 3 wall sandwich panels and subsequent frequency results and mode shapes were recorded for two undamaged and damaged states. Then, their correlation with MAC (Modal Assurance Criteria) was investigated. Comparison of frequency and mode shapes indicates occurrence of damage in panels. Furthermore, amount of damage was calculated by modeling undamaged and damaged wall panels in finite element (FE) software and defining defect detection algorithms.
