Assessment of the status of surface water quality in Darabkola forest, Iran abstract

Monitoring of water quality is one of the key elements in the global environmental monitoring policy and management. The main concern of this investigation concentratedon status of stream and river water chemistry. The study area is located in district one of Darabkola forest. Stream crossings and river were implemented for this study. Water samples were collected in spring and analyzed for TDS, NO- 3 and NH+4. T-test wasperformed to test whether mean values of water quality parameters differ between stream and river treatments. Also, Pearson correlation and regression analysis of data were evaluated. Results showed that streams had higher amounts of TDS and NH+ 4 and lower NO-3 than river. TDS concentration wasn’t correlated with concentration of NO-3 and NH+4 in the catchment. To minimize the effect of logging and road building on water quality, the most important mechanism to be considered is the establishment of buffer zone along the stream.
