An Analytical Method for Calculation of Static and Seismic Bearing Capacity of Strip Footings Supported By Granular Trench abstract
Granular trench is one of the quick, most effective and low cost methods for increasing bearing capacity of strip footings. There is a few data on the operation of granular trenches, especially for seismic conditions. In this paper, a new analytical method proposed for computing the static and seismic bearing capacity of strip footings supported with granular trench based on imaginary retaining wall concept. The analytical results were compared with available analytical and numerical methods. As shown, the new proposed model has good capability to predict bearing capacity of such foundations in both static and seismic conditions.
