Behavior of tensile steel members rehabilitated with bonded CFRP sheets abstract
Recently, using CFRP composites for the aim of steel members rehabilitation has been attracted many researchers attention. In this study, the efficiency of the steel tensile members retrofitted by the CFRP layers is assessed. The major uses of the tensile members in the steel structures is reviewed and various forms of bonding CFRP sheets on the members is introduced. The effectiveness of these bonding types and the tensile behavior of amended members are investigated. Also the effect of the fiber orientation angle is studied by examining various arrangements of the composite layers. The results are compared with that of the steel tensile members without retrofitting. It is found that the rehabilitation with the CFRP sheets has a considerable effect on the behavior and the strength of the tensile steel members.
