On the Occurrence of Hot Lubricant Reflux in the Groove of Journal Bearing- an Experimental Study abstract
An experimental assessment on the possibility of the occurrence of negative oil flow through the journal bearing groove was carried out. The thermohydrodynamic (THD) behaviour of a twin groove hydrodynamic journal bearings has been monitored under different working conditions. At nine different loading direction angles, total flow rate and oil flow rate through each groove were measured while the feeding temperature was kept constant (40ºC). It was found that the variation of loading direction has a profound effect on the bearing characteristics at which under some running conditions, negative lubricant flow rate at one of the groove was detected. This seldom reported phenomenon was found to affect dramatically the bearing performance
