INVESTIGATION OF PHASE TRANSFER PROPERTIES OF AN ACIDIC CARRIER TOWARDS COPPER(II) IONS abstract

The transport of copper(II) ions, from (NH3/NH4Cl) solutions across a bulk liquid membrane by using 2-(dibutylcarbamoyl)benzoic acid dissolved in dichloromethane has been studied at 20°C. The effect of the fundamental parameters influencing the transport of copper ions, e.g., feed phase pH, the carrier concentration, kind of diluents, chemical composition and concentration of the receiving phase, and time dependency of the process have been investigated. It is found that a quantitative transfer (96%) of copper ions (initial concentration 1×10-4 M) can be achieved fromammonium solution (pH 10) through the bulk liquid membrane containing 0.01 M of carrier in dichloromethane into sulfuric acid (0.02 M) (receiving phase) after 6 h.
