Abstract:
Presently some of companies of Pakistan are operating at good quality levels and many at moderate quality levels. At this state they are in profit range. These companies are implementing statistical tools to somewhat extent but not using quality assurance tools or Total Quality
Management tools for improvement of their running, except ISO 9000:2000. That’s why most of companies are facing serious problems with the emergence of China’s product. So these companies are in need of such powerful quality assurance and improvement techniques that there defects level decrease to considerable amount and profit margins increase proportionally. For this purpose some companies are implementing Six Sigma in their organizations effectively. Revolution of Six Sigma in developed countries encouraged developing countries to apply this tool in their countries to get a competitive edge over their competitive companies and to decrease difference between performance of their own company and world class companies. Six Sigma in Pakistan started in Pakistan in 2000, when Thal Engineering trained its employees in Six Sigma.
Now Six Sigma in Pakistan is being practiced in a few companies in manufacturing sector, e.g. engineering and textile sector and also even in some service sector (PIQC). Quality professionals are getting Six Sigma training at different expertise level and implementing it effectively in their
own organizations. Although some companies are giving better results, but also some are facing problem during its implementation. Common problem being faced is lack of top level management commitment. This paper provides benefits obtained by Six Sigma implementation and hurdles faced during its implementation and also provide some recommendations for successful implementation of Six Sigma in future.
