Abstract:
Due to the existence of end-effects and large mechanic clearance, the parameters of single-sided linear induction motor (SLIM) are variable and the efficiency is lower than that of rotary induction motor (RIM). The low-speed maglev train adopts the singlesided, compound-secondary linear induction motors (LIMs) due to their simple construction and low cost. A special section will be dedicated of electromagnetic aspects of the LIM through finite element analysis. Using finite element method(FEM), we evaluate the electromagnetic behavior of the SLIM by material of reaction plate changing to get the comparative performance analysis with different materials used. However, longitudinal end effect deteriorates the performance because of the discontinuous magnetic circuit in SLIM. In this paper, the 3D transient electromagnetic field of SLIM is computed using finite element method is proposed, also presents the thrust characteristics analysis of LIMs using the 3-D finite element method (3-D FEM) with edge elements taking into account eddy currents.
