Abstract:

In the process of metal forming, predicting the material flow directions during metal forming is very useful for predicting the force that is needed for forming. In this paper the process of the lateral extrusion of gear like components with a radial tooth profile using the slab method has been studied. First, flow of the material in the die estimated using Prondtl-Reuss equation. Then based on the material flow, each stage of deformation is analyzed using slab method analysis and extrusion force for each punch stroke is calculated. Finally, the theoretical results are compared with experimental and FVM simulation results to probe the validity of this proposed model. The results showed the theoretical prediction of the material flow and forming force is compatible with the experimental results and FVM simulation.
