Abstract:
This study investigates the feasibility of installing the waste heat recovery system in Tehran cement plant. Cement production is an energy intensive process. Heat losses in high energy intensive industry like cement production may represent a significant percentage of the total energy input. In this study, the main sources of waste heats in a cement plant have been determined. These sources included waste heat from kiln surface, hot air from clinker cooler, and the preheater exhaust gases. The total waste heat from these three sources was obtained more than 41% of total heat input. The results showed that the installing a system of heat recovery and utilization of its waste heat in the power plant can produce 5556 kilo Watt per hour of electrical energy. Installing such system can save 3640 m3 per hour of natural gas consumption and equivalently reduce the CO2 emission more than 61 tons per year. The economic benefit of implementing a waste heat recovery system in Tehran cement plant was estimated about $2.1 million annually
