Abstract:
Equivalence is the central issue of translation for decades. In order to avoid the age-old opposition between literal and free translation, theoreticians in the ١٩٥٠s and ١٩٦٠s began to attempt more systematic analyses. The main aim of this review paper is to review the theory of Equivalence in translation field and the interpretation of this by Famous theorists in this field by Roman Jacobson, Eugene Nida and Taber, Holmes, Vinay and Darbelnet, Catford, House, Mona Baker and finally Pym. In fact the concept of Equivalence in text translation has important role. When a message is transferred from SL to TL, the translator is also dealing with two different cultures at the same time. Some theorists who regard translation Equivalence as being essentially a transfer of the message from SC (source culture) to the TC(target culture)and a pragmatic/semantic or functionally oriented approach to translation. In conclusion the concept of Equivalence varies according to translator's imagination and the use of it in their translations.
