A comparison between plug flow and axial dispersion models in prediction of mass transfer in a pulsed plate extraction column abstract

Mass transfer coefficient in a pulsed sieve-plate solvent extraction column (PSPEC) has been calculated using plug flow and axial dispersion models. ADM is a developed model of PFM, in which additional effect of axial mixing on mass transfer has been considered. Values of Koca evaluated by ADM are greater than those of PFM by about 50% indicating that the axial mixing lowers the performance of PSPEC. Finally, a new correlation for Height of Transfer Unit (HTUoc) based on Reynolds number and pulse intensity is suggested in order to prediction of axial mixing effect in pulsed column.
