Abstract:
The present study has been conducted to investigate the effects of educational games on instructing mathematical concepts among first-grade primary school students with learning disorder in Mirjavih. This study is an experimental one employing a pre-test and posttest design. The population includes all male first-grade primary school students with learning disorder in Mirjavih during the academic year 1392-1393. Thirty-two students with learning disorder were selected as the sample of the study. These participants were assigned into control and experimental groups. The instrument was Iran's Key-math which was administered to every individual student in two separate sessions (addition and subtraction). Having employed the independent samples t-test and Covariance at the .05 level of significance, the collected data were analyzed. Having statistically analyzed the effects of pretest, it was found that the independent variable significantly influenced the addition concept in the posttest (p<.001). Also, concerning the subtraction concept, the mean of scores in the pretest did not significantly influence the subtraction concept in the posttest (p=.073). Having statistically analyzed the effects of the pretest, the independent variable has had significant effect on the subtraction concept in posttest (p=.002). Mean scores of basic mathematical concepts in pretest has had significant effect on the mean scores of basic mathematical concepts in posttest (p=.006). Having statistically analyzed the effects of pretest, the findings indicated that the independent variable has significantly influenced the basic mathematical concepts in posttest (p<.001), so that, the experimental group' mean scores in basic mathematical concepts were higher than the control's. Based on these findings, integrating mathematics learning with the educational games can encourage students to attend the educational classes, since the employment of such games, in addition to creating a dynamic and attractive environment, would enhance learning process.
